It’s been a minute. I recently started at a new job, which has taken some time, and I have been putting a lot of focus into my other platforms, but I’m here (for good!)
I have been planning and working on vegan yummies for you all, and I can’t wait to share everything with you!
I have so much planned for this blog and my other platforms. I plan to incorporate more fitness, health, and nutrition – so stay tuned because this will all be starting very soon! (like this week soon)
So to kick this all off I have 2 “dessert” recipes for you!
If you know anything about me at all then you know that I love living a healthy lifestyle. I am constantly infusing my life with healthy habits and routines that can improve how I feel both on the inside and the outside.
Each year, I create health focused goals in three different categories.
Physical (fitness, endurance, appearance, specific performance based fitness)
Emotional (self -care, self-love, personal or professional improvements)
Health (diet, routine, beauty)
These three categories combined create my healthy lifestyle. I made a lot of goals this year regarding my health. I feel like 2018 brought so much growth, but it also kicked my ass. I went through a lot emotionally and physically. I want to be better this year.
My Goals and Resolutions:
Get lean and toned- Have Abs – I know that this may seem vain, but I have never had abs (or, even one single ab.) I want to push myself in my fitness, and see my body in a new way. It just seems fun!
Do a handstand/headstand (yoga)- I want to be able to do more advanced poses and flows in yoga. I know that I will have to build upper body strength in order to do this.
Be able to run 3+ miles without resting- I can run long distances no problem, but I struggle to not take breaks due to mild asthma. I get really wheezy so I want to get better at pushing through.
Stretch at least 10 min daily
Let go of perfectionism and become more courageous with putting myself out there
Practice more self-love
Be more upfront and honest with myself and others- I hold back how I really feel a lot
Read before bed each day
Wake up at 5 am Monday-Saturday
Improve my gut health- I have terrible digestion (IBS) it affects how I digest, process, and take in nutrients. I want to be able to achieve my fitness goals, but I know that I won’t be able to without fixing my gut first.
Eat clean, balanced, and more green- I just want to increase the good food. Not necessarily eliminate anything. Just add more.
Take better care of my hair and skin- vitamins, products, taking time to care for my body
Read one health focused book a month (12 books)
So, how do I ensure that I don’t get overwhelmed and quit? How do I make these goals last?
Happy 2019! I can’t believe another year has already come and gone, but I know this year will be our best yet.
With each new year- comes goals and resolutions. One of the most common goals of the new year is to eat healthier, and I know many people will be trying plant-based eating. According to a survey completed in the UK, it is expected that 3 million people will be going vegan this year.
There is no denying that the plant-based trend is growing. Between the new brands and products on store shelves, the continued increase in obesity, heart diseases, and cancer, and the research that is being published regarding the state of our environment – more and more people are considering transitioning to this lifestyle. Luckily, it’s easier now more than ever.
As a counselor, the biggest question I get asked is, “How do I find my purpose?” This is always such a hard question to answer, because our purpose ultimately comes from what we take away from our experiences and aspirations, and is incredibly personal. Plus, I too struggle with defining my purpose and with finding ways to remain truthful to it.
The truth is, finding your true purpose is just step one of the process. You then have to create goals that define your focus, create an intentional routine that will help you achieve these goals, and then continuously check-in with yourself to make sure you are aligned with your goals and purpose. A lot of us (myself included) get really caught up in creating goals and placing focus on the wrong things.
Let me explain.
Four years ago, I was a senior in undergrad studying medicine and biology. I was part of a sorority, had a position of leadership in a couple clubs, and had a pretty great social life. However, I was completely and utterly detached from myself. There were many times where I would be in tears wondering how I felt so alone, unhappy, and unlike myself. When a problem would occur, I would ask myself, “What would Taylor do?” just constantly trying to get back in touch with the girl I once was.
My purpose in life has always been to help others. I have felt this since I was just a gal in diapers. However, as I got older my why had become clouded with wants and desires. This caused me to create goals that weren’t truly aligned with my purpose, and were more about pleasing others and my superficial self rather than focusing on what I actually wanted just for me.
For instance, I had zero interest in being a doctor. I just knew that doctors made a lot of money, and I would be financially taken care of. Also, no hate on the people in my life at this time, but I was surrounding myself with people who were not at all aligned with who I was. I kept them close simply to check the box of having a social life. I was only going after outward goals.
One thing you absolutely have to know about me is that I’m obsessed with the holidays! Getting together with family, the decorations, the beautiful weather, and let’s not forget the movies that leave you feeling oh so fuzzy. However, there is something about the holidays that a lot of people don’t like to talk about. Burn out.
My admiration of the holidays usually results in me feeling a little more stressed out than usual. I mean, during the holidays we are; socializing more, spending more, eating more, doing more, and sleeping less. For a people pleasing introvert like myself- that can be a lot.
What usually happens is I am in busy bee mode for three months straight without taking any time to take care of myself. I usually end up with a cold, and a messy apartment as soon as New Year’s rolls around.
I wanted to compile a list of self-care practices that we can all do this holiday season. Whether you are like me, or if you just want new ways to take extra care of yourself, try to take advantage of at least one of these self-care tips.
I have also created a self-care guide that can help you with quick ideas for self-care, learning what types of self-care work best for you, and the situations that may result in you needing some self-care.
About 6 months ago I set out to make this the best year yet. I made a ton of goals, graduated from my master’s program, and decided to start focusing on growing my social media and forming a personal brand. While this is all well and good, I have completely lost touch with my inner me. You see, it’s so easy to get caught up in the physical and visible parts of ourselves (our bodies, our school work, our social media accounts, our friends) these things provide us with direct results and satisfaction. We can see ourselves getting what we want, and it feels amazing. However, it eventually won’t mean that much if you aren’t working on self-love too.
What is self-love? It’s what I like to think of as a combo of self-awareness and appreciation. According to google, it’s the regard for one’s own well-being and happiness (chiefly considered as a desirable rather than narcissistic characteristic). Why is this important? You truly cannot find true happiness, love, and connection without it. A lack of self-love will result in difficulty in areas of confidence, relationships, success, and so much more. You may be in a relationship, you may have great success, but you will not feel connected to them.
For me, this neglect towards myself has caused me to feel a little lost, sad, anxious, and insecure. I have noticed that I have been constantly seeking validation from everyone and everything around me and feeling devastated when I don’t receive it. Why am I desperately looking for this validation? Because I’m not giving it to myself. So simple. I promised myself that I would focus on the relationship I have with myself for the remainder of this year, and will hopefully create rituals and habits that I will carry with me forever.
I have been living for my morning routine lately. It’s the perfect blend of productive action, and relaxed self-care. I like to change up my routine every now and then, but I always come back to these basics, because they work best. I love this routine, because it gives me enough energy and motivation to drive me through my day. Also, it’s filled with healthy hacks to make sure I’m starting my mind and body off on the right foot. So, if you’re looking to spruce up your routine, or are wanting to start over completely- give this one a try.

To continue onto the last post I am sharing a few savory snack recipes that are sure to fill you up! They are all vegan, healthy, and packed with flavor. As I have mentioned- I am usually a sweet gal, and Wyatt is all about the savory goods. It can create quite a debate when it comes to whipping up something to snack on. However, these have been a go-to lately.
Making your own snacks is a great way to avoid eating a lot of processed foods. These recipes are easy as they take 4-25 minutes to make! You can even make them as part of your meal prep and have them ready to go throughout the week.
I have uploaded a video where you can follow along HERE
I have a huge sweet tooth. I can’t even recall a time where I didn’t end the day with dessert. It’s my thing. However, my fitness goals (aka abs of steel) don’t really allow me to indulge on the daily. So, it has become my mission to create healthy, vegan, and gluten free sweets that align perfectly with my goals. So if you’re in the same boat as I am, and find yourself dreaming of cake and cookies- Don’t fret because I have everything you need in this post. There is a recipe for everyone! I posted this on my Youtube— check it out HERE
