1. The foods that you consume in a whole food plant-based diet have been shown to prevent cancerous cells from forming/reproducing.
Many studies prove that following a vegan diet can dramatically decrease your chances of getting cancer. In one well-known study, blood samples were taken from women with breast cancer, who were then asked to try a plant-based diet for two weeks. After the fourteen days, the women’s blood was taken again. The results showed that the vegan blood had nearly eight times the stopping power when it comes to cell cancer growth, as compared with blood taken from people who follow a Standard American Diet.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the US. The Cancer Society estimates that in 2019, there will be an estimated 1,762,450 new cancer cases diagnosed and 606,880 cancer deaths in the United States.) This scares the you know what out of me- so if eating a diet in plants minimizes the risk of developing cancer… count me in.
2. Veganism lowers your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 60%
Many studies have replicated these results. The crazy thing is that a diet high in fruits has actually been shown to reduce your chances of developing type 2 diabetes. This was surprising for me because all we hear is “Fruit will make you fat.” Now, I know that isn’t true, but I really want to de-bunk this for sure. I will be doing lots of research on this and will let you know what I find.
3. Veganism can help you lose weight
Look, I’m not one to push this part of the lifestyle, but the reality is eating a whole food plant based diet will result in a lower body fat percentage. In fact, those who follow a vegan diet are on average 20 lbs lighter than those who consume meat, dairy, and eggs.
4. A vegan diet results in lower blood pressure compared to those following a diet high in meat products
1 in 4 Americans have high blood pressure, and only about 50% of those with high blood pressure have it under control. A vegan diet, greatly decreases the risk of hypertension and high blood pressure by 33-75%.
5. Leads to lower cholesterol
High cholesterol levels lead to coronary heart disease and in some cases death. Consuming meat, dairy, and eggs results in 25% higher cholesterol levels than a diet in plant based foods.
6. There are a lot of unwanted hormones, antibiotics, and chemicals found in meat and dairy products.
70% of the antibiotics used in the US are used in the animal agriculture industry. Antibiotics are fed to farmed animals to offset the disease risks posed by overcrowding, stressful conditions, early weaning and maximising production. These are given regardless of whether the animal is infected or not. Greater use of antibiotics in modern animal farming raises the risk of antibiotic resistance, meaning increasing antibiotic failure for human diseases.

Raising cattle for meat and dairy uses a crap ton of our resources. To make a single burger patty we use 1,799 gallons of water. By going vegan, you will on average reduce the water usage by 1000 gallons of water a day.

No lie, guys. I have had the best food of my life living this lifestyle. I know that many people imagine dirt on a plate when they think of vegan food, but that’s just not the case. I’ll attach some of the amazing vegan food out there…
2. It’s more convenient now than ever before
Gone are the days where vegans must stick to the produce section of stores. There are so many meat, dairy, and even egg alternatives on the shelves now. Impossible Foods, Beyond Meat, No Evil, Kite Hill, Engine 2, and Siete Foods are a few of my favorites.
3. You never get that heavy/tired feeling after eating.
When I would go out to eat prior to being vegan, I would always leave feeling lethargic and heavy. Now, I have so much energy and can consume an abundance of food without pain.
4. Your hair, skin, and nails will thank you.
Due to all of the wonderful nutrients you will be consuming your hair, skin, and nails will look better than ever! Just make sure you are eating a balanced/varied diet and you will have all of the nutrients you need.

Most of us have a diet lacking in fiber. Vegans most definitely don’t have that problem. There is so much fiber found in plant based foods. When I first went vegan, my digestive system was SHOOK.
6. You will feel way more connected to your food and what you put on your plate.
I have become very conscious of what I consume throughout the day. I feel like I had become so disconnected from my food, because I didn’t want to think about where it was coming from. I didn’t know a lot about nutrition and the vegan diet before I started so I had a lot to learn. Each and every food on this planet offers specific benefits for the body. I now construct my meals based on this knowledge and feel proud that I am eating the best way I possibly can for my body : ]
