Stop the Comparison Game

“You are enough. You are so enough. It is unbelievable just how enough you are.” – Unknown

Comparison and self doubt have been plaguing my days lately. I have made a goal for myself to try and grow my Instagram, blog, and eventually start a podcast. I really believe that this will all be a great learning experience for me as I struggle with putting myself in vulnerable positions. However, I’ve realized that it’s extremely easy to fall down a rabbit hole of insecurity when you’re spending time browsing social media. It seems like every account out there depicts a perfect life full of perfect bodies, photos, and content. It’s tempting to want to duplicate or compete against them.

I decided to take a moment and write down some of my favorite accounts and I made a list of what I loved most about each of them. Every account had the word authentic in their list. I clearly admire the accounts that unapologetically put themselves out there, and do so in a way that is empowering. I feel like the only way I will be truly proud of my work is if it is 100% me, which means it will be messy, goofy, curious, kind, and AUTHENTIC.

We should try and remember that no one knows what they are doing. We are just as lost as the person with 1 million followers. We should try and not shy away from this vulnerability, but instead we should lean into it and use it as a way to make connections with the people in our lives. This concept should go beyond the realms of social media, and should be applied to everything that we do.

It’s also important to remember what we see on social media is just a snippet or a second of someone’s life, and that the person chooses what they put out there. Be proud of what you choose to put out there for the world to see. We all have something that is valuable and needed in the world. Show whatever it is you offer and do so with full force, and without any hesitation to be authentic.

All the best,

Taylor K
